This is Ferragudo’s largest and most popular beach. The 800-metre-long beach is sheltered by the high cliffs. It is accessed via the road along the castle wall, named after the castle’s first private resident Joaquim José Coelho de Carvalho. A 10-metre-long staircase leads to the lower beach. The beach is also accessible on the north side at low tide via Praia da Angrinha and the castle. On the south side, the walkway over the cliffs leads to Praia Grande. There are several restaurants and beach bars on the beach. Hidden among the cliffs is ´Escondidinho Beach Bar´. Next to the stairs that access the beach is ´Restaurant Praia Grande´. On the beach are ´Club Nau´ where there are many popular life performances, especially during the summer period, and the quieter ´Kalu Beach Bar´. From May to October, sun beds with umbrellas can be rented on the beach. During summer, there are ongoing activities here: there will be a water park, sports competitions and kayak and sup rentals. As Praia Grande lies within the breakwaters, there is little wave action, making it pleasant for children too.
